– Thanksgiving Day –
110……with so much food……
111……and with family.
“If anyone would tell you the shortest, surest way to all happiness—
he must tell you to make it a rule to yourself to thank and praise God for everything that happens to you.
For it is certain that whatever seeming calamity happens to you, if you thank and praise God for it, you turn it into a blessing.
Could you therefore work miracles, you could not do more for yourself than by this thankful spirit, for it heals with a word speaking, and turns all that it touches into happiness.
……it be the noblest sacrifice that the greatest Saint can offer unto God.”
~ William Law, A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life
I think back to a day when I wanted to think of one thing to be thankful for. Just one.
Not just something like “food”, or “clothes” – but something real that would help hold me up, something for me to hang onto, I guess something that I could look at and know that GOD is good, and see how good HE is and see that HE really does love me.
But there is nothing when everything is messed up and nothing is the way it should be.
When everything in and around you is awful and hurt and sad and depressed.
But as I continued groping for just one thing to be able to be thankful for I realized something –
I’d already been given The Greatest Gift.
GOD is good, and GOD does love me.
GOD loves me so much that HE gave me HIS SON – HE loves me that much. Even what my mind could wrap around is only a tiny fraction of how much HE loves me. GOD is that good.
I saw even if that was all, even if that was everything I got, and everything else in my entire life was wrong and mess, HE would still be good and HE would still love me.
Even if I did have nothing else, I did have something, which is the greatest gift there is – JESUS.
GOD loves you that much, too, you know.
GOD has been that good to you, too, you know.
Do you really realize how good HE is?
Do you really realize how much HE loves you?
Well, He loves you that much.
You’ve already been given The Greatest Gift.
Even if that’s all there is, it is enough.
“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
– 1 John 4:10 –
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
– John 3:16 –
